Senior Equine Evaluations

As horses age their bodies begin to breakdown, just as in humans. Each horse ages differently from one another. Therefore, the onset of their issues may vary. Often the first thing we notice with elderly horses is that they lose weight and muscle mass. This can be for many reasons, such as teeth issues, worm damage, or digestive problems. Older horses have a more difficult time fighting off infections as well. It is important to maintain their routine heath care. Call CVS when you notice a change or any health issues in your senior horse. Dr. Winter will examine him/her and discuss a care plan, as well as advise you if changes should be made in your management. A (CBC) complete blood count and (EQP) Equine profile panel may be recommended to evaluate their organ functions. After test results are recieved, Dr. Winter will discuss further treatment options if necessary.
