This is an examination of the eyes, which are a very sensitive organ that can be damaged easily. If your horse has any form of injury or irritation, Dr. Winter should examine the eye as soon as possible to prevent any permanent damage. During this exam he will stain your horse’s eye to look for any scratches or puncture wounds. If any repair or procedures need to be performed, Dr. Winter is able to do that at the time of the exam. It is important that owners do not put any type of ointment into their horse’s eyes, until a thorough ophthalmic exam has been performed. If the wrong ointment is used further damage can occur.
