Feline Leukemia

Feline Leukemia is a
deadly viral disease amongst cats. It is similar to the AIDS
virus in humans, in that it causes immunosuppression. Severe
anemia and neoplastic disease (tumors) are also caused by
FeLV. This disease is transmissible mainly through saliva.
For example: grooming each other, sharing dishes, and
sharing toys. Kittens in utero can also become infected with
FeLV.
Feline
leukemia is a devastating disease, however it can be
prevented by having your cat tested, as well as vaccinated
annually. When Dr. Winter tests for FeLV, he uses a snap
test which allows us to give our clients immediate results.
